Not all blades will look as dark as the one pictured, that seems to be a trick of the light. The all have the heat treat finish which can land anywhere from black to a goldish gray, sometime even with spots of each.
This Round of blades are all finish ground and ready to handle and use. They feature a low belly and fine tip spoon carving inspired design with a slight sway back, which serves to allow a progressive curve without adding bulk, and looks super sinister! Flat ground this round at 27 degrees. Also featuring a sharp New Hampshire state silhouette stamp this round.
52100 is the king of the basic low alloy steel catagory. It is quite easy to sharpen with most any common sharpening media, while providing the best possible hardness and edge retention of all steels with out chromium or vanadium added (the alloying additions that add more abrasive wear and therefore slow down sharpening and edge degradtion). My heat treat and post cold processing provides a fine grain structure that alloys a super clean edge.
I use a tang “burn-in” method into a 1/4” pilot hole. You can also do a 5/16 pilot for faster fit, even just taped in with gaps filled with glue or dowel filled method. A broach saw is another great method. You can make one from a jig saw blade.
