This Special one off features a re-curve or sway spine and black micarta bolster for style points. This sway back blade profile I’ve been featuring a lot is an effort to produce a very versatile edge profile curve that is smooth and progressive without looking or feeling bulky. It breaks a trend which i see too often of 3 inchs of straight knife with a little curve at the end. I’ve always believed a good carving knife should have a subtle curve all the way down the edge and this particular interpretation does that beautifully.. The grind is a flat Scandinavian so that the edge angle is held true at 27 degrees from tip to tail (I bet you didn’t know that all jig hollow ground knifes descend in edge angle to the tip, and the more curve the more the angle changes!)

This particular steel formula is often referred to as the stainless version of a high carbon steel as it’s an easy transition to get used to working with and sharpening. There is no addition of super hard Vanadium carbides to battle with, but a significant addition of Chromium (harder than Carbon, softer than Vanadium) adds a wear resistance that can not be matched by any carbon steel. Silicon Carbide paper or Diamonds will make the job easiest but even simple water stones can get the job done.
