Large Diameter Hook strop to match my Monadnock and open curve hooks

$30.00

I've always used a larger diameter strops to increase the speed and efficiency of my production sharpening. Increased surface area on the hook will break that burr away quicker with few passes and more positive feeling to your engagement with the hooks inside leveling rails which helps to maintain the intended bevel design I delivered the hook with. I also use this strop on the outside of the curve with light pressure to speed up the burr break off. The most effective way to break a burr is the action of folding it back and forth many times to crack it off so working one side of the knife with one or two passes and then the other side, and repeat . I have found that using a dowel strop and a flat strop is a slow and slightly clumsier process. I'll post a demo on Instagram so you can see my process.

I have suede side or smooth side out available . Common practice is buy both to put polishing compound on the suede strop and keep a clean smooth leather strop for finishing.

My strop design is about 1.3 inches diameter using a thin 1.2-1.5 mm shoulder leather. The dowel is stained black since sharpening is a messy job that typically turns everything black anyway. The strop is also long at 13" overall with 10'' of leather to work with. Oak or Poplar depending on availability at my time of purchase

These will ship within one week of order being placed. I try to consolidate my packing and shipping to a single day each week
